My first travel assignment started off in Northern Virginia. I am about 30 minutes south of Downtown Washington, DC. My ultimate goal was to work in DC, but with already having a compact license, I felt it would be easier finding something in a state I have a license in. The time of which I was looking to sign my contract was limited. Sis was ready to go!
I have been thinking about travel nursing for about a year and a half now. I never had the courage to take the leap of faith and try it out. Well, after taking my two week vacation to LA, China and Thailand, I decided to go for it. I knew at that point that there was so much more to live for and traveling has been my thing. There was no settling in a job that was stressful and not helping me succeed in my career. I had grown out of my comfort zone. I came to realize that I was ready for more and knew something had to change for my career.
Fast forward to January 2020, I am in Virginia currently working on a Heart Surgery Unit. Like wow, I am actually doing this!! Someone have faith in little ole me to trust me with their patients with little to no orientation on the floor. *That is why having years of experience is important.* I was a little saddened when I had to leave my family and loved ones, but I remind myself that the end goal is worth it in the future.
I have already enjoyed my time here. From shopping to exploring museums to the night life. I have done and looking forward to doing more on my off days. Might I say, DC is definitely a city I don’t mind being in when the weather is nice out!
I am excited to share more of my journey as a travel nurse with you all! This is only the beginning with so much more to come.
