"According to the World Health Statistics Report, there are approximately 29 million nurses and midwives in the world, with 3.9 million of those individuals in the United States. Estimates of upwards of one million additional nurses will be needed by 2020."
So you want to be a nurse??? What's holding you back? Is it because of age? You have children? No money to afford tuition? No motivation or support to keep you pushing through a program?
Is it fear itself? Listed below are two ways to help you make your final decision!!
Research and get as much information about nursing as you can. You can start as a LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) or you can go straight into being a Registered Nurse. As a RN, you can get your Associates or Bachelors Degree. Also, speak to and connect with nurses and ask about their experience. Ask around on social media or via email and get as many resources as you can. Contact the administrators at your perspective nursing program(s) and build a connection. Ask about the application processes and what would make you a contributor allowing you to be accepted into their program. The more you are aware and informed on the profession, the more confidence you are to begin your journey!
BE TRUE TO YOURSELF
If becoming a nurse is your ultimate goal and what you are passionate about, MAKE IT HAPPEN!! From my personal experience, I did everything in my power to get my RN license and BSN degree. I worked full time and transitioned from a traditional university to an expensive private nursing program to get it all done.
Ask yourself: Why do I want to be a nurse? Is it for the salary or is it for the stability? Am I doing it for myself or because my parents want me to be a nurse? Was I inspired by a nurse and researched the profession?
After answering these questions, make your final decision. My advice for you is to know your GOAL, execute, and push through all obstacles until it is CONQUERED!!
